Today, I was out sick and had a substitute all day. Students were to complete the study questions from the day before, and as such read all the way through Act II. If students finished those, they were to begin the Act II fill-in-the-blank reading guide (see last Friday's post for the document).

All sections had a quiz today over Act I. After the quiz was over, they were to pick up a study question handout and begin reading Act II and answering questions through scenes 2 or 3. Please see the attached file for these questions. ![]()
Today, all sections discussed the fill-in-the-blank reading guide for Act I of Romeo and Juliet (please see Friday's post for the document). I checked to see if afternoon classes had done theirs for a completion grade. This constituted our quiz review for Act I. The Act I quiz was on Tuesday the 10th.
1st hour alone completed the fill-in-the-blank reading guide for Act I of Romeo and Juliet. All afternoon classes did the same and were also instructed to begin a grammar packet (the grammar packet was not for a grade). Afternoon classes had a substitute. The packet attached below contains the fill-in guides for each Act of Romeo and Juliet. ![]()
Today, all sections finished finding literary terms in Act I of Romeo and Juliet, and groups shared their findings aloud at the end of class.
First hour finished Scene 4 and 5 questions (see Monday's post for handout) and Scene 5 audio. Then, they began searching the entirety of Act I for examples of foreshadowing.
Third hour searched for foreshadowing as well, and some were able to begin searching for examples of puns and other humorous bits in the Act. We will discuss this and continue this tomorrow (in all sections). Fourth hour finished Scene 5 audio and questions before moving on to the same activity as above. Fifth and sixth hours followed suit with third hour's agenda, with some getting further than puns. Between today and tomorrow, all sections will have searched for: foreshadowing, puns and comic relief, oxymorons and juxtaposition, imagery, monologues, asides, and more if time allows. First and fourth hours only got through Scene 4 audio completely in Act I of Romeo and Juliet. (First hour needs to complete Scene 4 questions also; fourth hour needs to complete Scene 5 questions only.) Third, fifth, and sixth hours, however, finished the entire study guide for Act I and Scenes 1-5 audio today.
Please see No Fear Shakespeare if you need to catch up on reading at home. The study questions for each scene are attached to yesterday's post. Today, students read Act I, Scene I (Scene II if time allows) in Romeo and Juliet in small groups. They had study questions to complete in conjunction with these sections. We will discuss these tomorrow and check for comprehension tomorrow at the start of class. I will attach those questions to this post. The "No Fear" version of R&J is on the previous post if students need it. ![]()
