5th hour will do this research process tomorrow in class, and they will focus today on enrollment in S214.
All hours will be in the library tomorrow and Friday; 5th hour only will be there Thursday.
Today, all sections but 5th hour will be in the library to research their topics and narrow their focus to a researchable question. Students also need to complete and return their enrollment cards from Advisory to ME/English I so I can pass them on to their counselors for enrollment.

Today, first and second hour finished their punctuation activity from yesterday (please see me for handout; 4-6 hours worked on this Friday), and then they viewed a credible sources PowerPoint (attached). After this, they completed an exit ticket to help me fine-tune resources as they proceed with their research projects. Lastly, they began their overview of chapter two vocabulary--not to turn in. 4-6 hours received and discussed yesterday's MLA handouts (see Tuesday's post). ![]()

Students may finish their charts from yesterday, and then individually they will need to read the attached handout, annotate their copy, and summarize the key points. They will also need to make note of questions they have about the packet and its contents (what they need clarified). Then, students should individually brainstorm topics of interest to them based on yesterday's group conversations. ![]()
Today, students turned in yesterday's Perception vs. Reality in Fiction charts and the vocab. handouts if they still had them. Then, students followed directions attached below. Some groups will need to finish their charts in the first ten minutes of class tomorrow. Absent students will need to complete the activity on their own, not including writing the lists on the large notebook paper. ![]()
Today, in addition to finishing yesterday's vocabulary activities and turning them in, students will begin to fill out the following chart to recall how our thematic topic of Perception vs. Reality was displayed in works we've already read as a class. ![]()
Today, students took an exam over Poetry, which will need to be made up as soon as possible if students were absent. Afterward, students completed the next vocabulary activities. These are attached below and can be finished in class tomorrow. They will need to be turned in for a grade. ![]()

Today, students considered the topic of perception vs. reality by examining a photo of Abraham Lincoln flipped. What was similar and different? Was there one that looked more sinister? Why? Why would we perceive it that way? What about emoticons? :) (: Is there one better than the other? Why? They're just mirror images of each other, and yet we have a preference, or one seems better. What about selfies? And posting to social media? How many does it take to find the right one? Does it depend on where you post? Why? Why do we filter and how? Perception versus reality is a concept that is well intertwined into the fibers of our lives, and we don't always recognize it. Our next unit (research) will require us to dig into our everyday lives to consider where perception and reality both intersect and contradict each other. Today, we also worked with our first ten vocab. words. This completed page will serve as notes for future activities with those ten words (notes=definitions). Lastly, today I reminded students that they have a Poetry Exam tomorrow. The review PowerPoint is under Friday's blog post.
