Whole class discussion as to what happened in yesterday's reading over topics including: civilization and strength, entitlement, how Zaroff's devaluation of animals led to his devaluation of humans, etc. 3. (If you use the PDF under Wednesday's entry, you will go through the middle of page 11.) 1. Roll 2. Collect Plot Diagrams 3. Clarify plot diagram definitions 4. Receive Literary Analysis Terminology Handouts (see below--these will be used the entire year!!!) 5. Discuss important terms so far 6. Discuss vocabulary for "TMDG" (page 16 of textbook) 7. Read through page 23 in "The Most Dangerous Game" (first page-read and discuss as a class; remainder-read individually)---Click here for an online text; they read through the phrase: "'It would be impossible for me to tell you how many animals I have killed.'" 8. For each page read individually, complete a summary of what happened. I will check each page's summary for a completion grade at the end of the whole text (later this week). ![]()

2) "The Most Dangerous Game" Anticipation Guide 3) Discuss statements 2 and 4 on Anticipation Guide 4) Read pages 2-3 in textbook and review plot diagram structure (will receive blank diagram) 5) Complete practice diagram over a familiar story (due at the start of class Wednesday) Deadlines: Signed syllabus and narrative paragraph are due by Tuesday the 25th or they are late and subject to penalty.
Today, students completed a "Zoo U" personality questionnaire to aid in my understanding of their personalities for future writing groups. Click here for the activity. Afterward, students had time to complete their narrative paragraphs. I clarified the assignment and answered all questions. Handouts can be found on Friday's post. Today's agenda: 1. Roll 2. Hand out syllabi for those who need them 3. Remind that they are due signed by Tues., 8-21 4. Collect signature pages already completed 5. Introduce Narrative 6. Students will begin writing Narrative Paragraphs that answer the question: What is the most important thing you (student) wish I (Mrs. Helton) knew about you? Three handouts were distributed. 1. Narrative Overview and Narrative Assignment Directions (attached separately on this post) 2. MLA heading, header, and title example page 3. Parts of Speech Cheat sheet The last two handouts will be used all year. We will set up all of our papers according to MLA and we will use the parts of speech to help us look at more complex grammar and to help us analyze our word choices. The Narrative Paragraph will be revisited in class on Monday and is due at the start of class on Tuesday the 25th. ![]()

It is the first day of school finally! Today I handed out syllabi. (A copy of the syllabus is attached below.) It is tedious doing housekeeping, but it's necessary! Then students were able to brainstorm for a "What I Wish My Teacher Knew" activity that we will continue writing tomorrow.
