All students are expected to be drafting for their research papers in class. On Friday, I will give a participation grade for completing drafts that contain an introductory paragraph with a thesis statement and body paragraphs about the theme in literature (their chosen books). This is required of all students in all sections. On Thursday, 4th hour only will have a chance to go to the library (there were no other open slots this week).
On Monday, all students received a handout about the rubric for the research paper and guidelines for writing it. The final draft of the paper will be due on Monday, April 20 to Turnitin.com by 11:59 pm. There will be a 10% off penalty for each day the paper is late. We will be doing handwritten drafts in class this week and then next week we will be in the library Monday, Tuesday, and Friday--in addition to a day in the library on the 20th, the due date. Students should plan to write as much as they can now so that when classes are in the library they do not have to write the paper--just type it. Attached below are the two handouts and a PowerPoint explaining the rubric. ![]()

Today, first hour went to the library. All sections had to turn in Assignments 2-4, and all sections had to work on their Works Cited pages and finish their paraphrasing packets. The latter two assignments are due Monday; the Works cited is due typed, in MLA format, submitted to Turnitin.com by 11:59 pm.
Today we are on Advisory schedule so classes are a bit shorter. Students still have plenty to do, though! They should finish assignments 2-4, but I have extended the due date from today at the end of class to tomorrow at the start of class. They may also continue handwriting their works cited pages, and finishing the paraphrasing packet they received Monday. We'll also briefly talk about in-text citations. The Works Cited page is due typed and submitted to turnitin.com by 11:59 pm Monday. That date will not be extended but students with internet and computer access conflicts should speak to me in advance so we can work around that.
No kidding around, here is what we are covering today: We will continue working on assignments 2-4, for which students should already have found articles (that was what library time yesterday was for). These are due at the end of class tomorrow. I pushed back the due date for the Works Cited page to Monday by 11:59 pm to Turnitin.com. Today we will discuss any discrepancies between copies of Assignment #2 and how to do Works Cited entries. I've attached a Works Cited guide below. Paraphrasing practice will be due by the end of the week. In-text citation practice will be done in class later this week. ![]()
