See Monday's post for what we will continue today. Students should turn in their complex sentences packet as well as their sentence combining activity handout from Monday once they are completed today. Students must highlight one simple, one compound, one complex, and one compound complex sentence in their rewritten paragraph as well. Again, since yesterday most students were absent, we will simply do today what we started yesterday. Have a wonderful fall break!
Today, students will begin a sentence combining activity (attached below) and they may finish Friday's complex sentence packet first if needed (see Friday's post). Students may turn both of these in by tomorrow at the end of class, but they should know that they will have a short practice assessment for a grade to do tomorrow as well, so they should budget their time accordingly. If afternoon students have questions while I am away at an appointment, they may email me or come see me during overtime tomorrow. ***Make sure with the sentence combining activity that you highlight one of each type of sentence: simple, compound, complex, and compound-complex after you have rewritten your paragraph. This is mandatory. Also: by 2nd hour, many people were already checked out. We will begin anew with this tomorrow. If extra time is needed, we will adjust accordingly. ![]()

Today, students will complete a complex sentences packet that can be found at the URL above. Students will also get their "Cask" notes back (which are going into the grade book today). ***This complex sentences packet will be used as notes for Monday's activity and should be turned in along with Monday's activity. Agenda: 1. Turn in notes (or have them out for me to come check) while we read silently for 10 minutes. 2. Receive types of sentences and clauses handout and discuss. 3. Receive compound vs. simple sentence practice sheet, complete activity, and discuss solutions afterward. These are for notes and not a grade; however, this activity will prepare you for a graded one upcoming (sentence combining). ![]()
