Today, students considered the topic of perception vs. reality by examining a photo of Abraham Lincoln flipped. What was similar and different? Was there one that looked more sinister? Why? Why would we perceive it that way?
What about emoticons? :) (: Is there one better than the other? Why? They're just mirror images of each other, and yet we have a preference, or one seems better. What about selfies? And posting to social media? How many does it take to find the right one? Does it depend on where you post? Why? Why do we filter and how?
Perception versus reality is a concept that is well intertwined into the fibers of our lives, and we don't always recognize it. Our next unit (research) will require us to dig into our everyday lives to consider where perception and reality both intersect and contradict each other.
Today, we also worked with our first ten vocab. words. This completed page will serve as notes for future activities with those ten words (notes=definitions).
Lastly, today I reminded students that they have a Poetry Exam tomorrow. The review PowerPoint is under Friday's blog post.
