Today, we finished our Literary Analysis Terms from Friday in 1st and 4th hours. I announced that we would have a "The Lady, or the Tiger?" vocabulary quiz TOMORROW at the start of class. I reminded everyone that the 11-sentence paragraphs from yesterday and last week are due to Turnitin.com no later than midnight tonight.
After review, and display of this website, I handed out a parts of speech "cheat sheet" to use as notes at all times. I also distributed another tone words list (this one is less complex than the original we used a couple of weeks ago and conveniently categorizes the words) and a theme vocabulary list. These documents are attached below.
We began "The Cask of Amontillado" as a class on page 210 in the textbook. We read to page 215. We used the handouts mentioned above to talk about tone, mood, characterization, irony, hyperbole, and the use of parts of speech in the story itself. Tomorrow, you will begin a timed writing analyzing some of those elements thus far in the story before finishing it on your own. Our ultimate goal for this unit is a full literary analysis essay.
An online version of "Cask" can be found here.
